Norton Center attracts world-class entertainment year after year

You might expect to go to a large venue in a big city to see musicians like The Guess Who, Kathy Mattea and Suzy Bogguss, or to see productions like The Pirates of Penzance, Hairspray and Cats.

That isn’t the case if you’re talking about the Norton Center, located on the campus of Centre College in downtown Danville, Kentucky.

(The musical Chicago is coming to the Norton Center for their 2022-2023 season.)

Each year, the performing arts center announces an impressive lineup of entertainment that spans from September through May. You’ll have already heard of some of the artists and performances before, but the Norton Center also seeks out unique performers and performances that will leave you in awe.

The 85,000-square-foot facility is a work of art itself, opened in 1973 after being designed by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation’s William Wesley Peters, who was Wright’s first apprentice. Inside this beautiful building, you’ll find art exhibitions in the Grand Foyer. From August-December, that exhibit is “We Were Here, The African-American Experience in Boyle County.”

The Norton Center also has two theatres – The 1,476-seat Newlin Hall and the 367-seat Weisiger Theatre. For the 2022-2023 performance season, you can get tickets to see a variety of productions in the theatres that aren’t common on the campus of a college of 1,300 students or in a town the size of Danville, but then again… Danville isn’t your typical small town!
