Danville’s Wilderness Trail Distillery, Burke’s Bakery competing to be named Kentucky’s best

Two well known Danville businesses are top three contenders in an annual statewide competition to determine who people think are the best of the best in Kentucky.

The Kentucky Living “Best in Kentucky 2023” top three finalists were recently named after the magazine accepted nominations online in several different categories, ranging from personalities and destinations to outdoors and food/drinks.

For 2023, Wilderness Trail Distillery is a contender for best distillery tour, along with Maker’s Mark Distillery and Buffalo Trace Distillery. Wilderness Trail is also a contender for best bourbon, along with Maker’s Mark and Woodford Reserve. In 2022, Wilderness Trail came in second place in the Best Distillery category.

Danville’s own Burke’s Bakery is also a finalist this year in the best bakery category, along with Hadorn’s Bakery in Bardstown and A Sweet Retreat in Elizabethtown.

“It’s always an honor to be nominated in a best of the best competition, but this year is particularly special because Danville has the potential to have three Best in Kentucky winners,” said Kendall Clinton, executive director of the Danville-Boyle County Tourism Office. “Both Wilderness Trail and Burke’s Bakery are well known in Danville and beyond and are popular stops for visitors coming to Danville and Boyle County. We actually had a tour bus from Minnesota stop downtown recently specifically so they could go to Burke’s.”

Winners in all 30 categories will now be determined by those who go online, beginning Monday, May 1, and choose their favorites. Voting at kentuckyliving.com will continue through the end of May.
