Recreation
The Bluegrass Region surrounding Boyle County is one of the most beautiful areas in the country. It provides easy access to excellent outdoor recreation. Herrington Lake is a popular boating and fishing spot within the county. The rolling Knobs Lands are a superb area for hiking, while Old Bridge features a premiere, local 18-hole golf course. Gwinn Island a popular fishing, boating and skiing resort offers cabins and campgrounds for those interested in experiencing nature at its best. The Central Kentucky Wildlife Refuge is another area where visitors can enjoy the splendor of the outdoors. Public parks in the Danville-Boyle County area provide baseball fields, tennis courts and playground equipment for all to enjoy. Tennis Tennis Courts are available for public use at Henry Jackson Park and lighted tennis courts are located at the Parks & Recreation Complex. Playgrounds Playground areas equipped with swings, slides, etc. are located at Millennium Park, Cowan Street Park and Henry Jackson Park, and are available at no charge to the public. Public Pool The Danville-Boyle County outdoor pool is open to the public from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The pool complex contains a full-size pool, a "baby" pool for children under age 5, bathroom/shower facilities, picnic tables and a sand volleyball court. Sport and Fitness Center The Parks and Recreation Sport & Fitness Center contains two racquetball courts, machine weights, free weights, and cardiovascular equipment. Step and aerobic classes are available for any fitness level. Fee is by individual visit or by the month. Disc Golf Henry Jackson Park contains a 9 hole, par 30, regulation Disc Golf course with amateur and professional tees. Golfing discs are not supplied, but may be purchased at a nominal fee locally. There is no charge for use of the Disc Golf course. Skateboard Park Located at Millennium Park, the new 10,000 square foot skateboard park is available for skateboarders, in-line skaters and bikers every day from dawn until dusk. Even remote car owners may enjoy the park.
