Isaac Shelby (1750-1826) was Kentucky's first and fifth governor. He acquired somewhere around 1400 acres of land south of Danville as payment for a surveying job. Governor Shelby lived on the land and was later buried on the estate at a site he named ''Traveller's Rest.''
