    • About

Perryville Battlefield is the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. A Confederate campaign to ''free'' Kentucky was launched in 1862 under the direction of General Braxton Bragg, Army of Tennessee, CSA. Twelve thousand soldiers under General E. Kirby Smith fought northward, and by the end of August, controlled the central part of Kentucky.

The Battle of Perryville was the most important Civil War engagement fought in Kentucky. Some historians believe that this battle, because it marked a fatal loss of initiative for the South, was as decisive as any other during the entire four-year conflict.

The self-guided Perryville Battlefield Walking Tour has eight stops that will help you interpret the battle that took place here on the afternoon of Oct. 8, 1862. The park area encompasses only a small part of the actual battlefield. This tour explains the action on the Union left and Confederate right.

Experience 1862 during the re-enactment of the Battle of Perryville and watch history unfold before your eyes. On October 8-9, 2016 you can witness those who fought on the hallowed grounds where they engaged.
