Bluegrass Pike Out-and-Back
2168 Connector Trail
As our newest section of mixed-use trail, the 2168 connector trail (left) is a great choice for beginning bikers; it has parking areas at both ends of the trail so you can park and ride, and it’s separated from Route 2168, so you don’t have to worry about staying out of traffic. The best part? It winds through rolling Kentucky farmland as far as the eye can see. And the relatively short round-trip distance (about 3 miles) makes it ideal for a quick spin with little ones or beginners. Be warned, though: it’s got some serious hills!
Weekly group rides
Our local bike shop, Danville Bike and Footwear, hosts weekly group rides that leave from the shop every Wednesday evening at about 6 p.m., weather permitting. If you happen to be in town mid-week, you’re always welcome to jump in with some locals, who know all the best back roads. For more inexperienced cyclists, it can be nice to tag along with a group for navigational, conversational, or repair purposes! Check out the shop’s website for details on this and other group fitness activities you can partake in. They’re also happy to give advice and guidance on places to ride in the area and can point you to routes of whichever distance and difficulty you’re seeking.
